The Asian Academic Accounting Association (FourA) was formed after two meetings, in Hong Kong in June 1998 and in Hawaii in October 1998, attended by interested delegates representing various academic accounting associations in Asia. The meetings were chaired by Professor Shahrokh Saudagaran (formerly Chairperson, International Accounting Section of the American Accounting Association).
The October meeting discussed a host of issues and activities which the FourA would undertake. These included the recruitment of members, publication of a newsletter (which would be web-based), an accounting journal, hosting of a Conference in the Year 2000, and the creation of a web-site to keep members informed on activities and events. The meeting also agreed that, in the interim, the secretariat for FourA would be based at the Singapore Management University (SMU) in Singapore. FourA office is now located at the Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz School of Accountancy, UUM College of Business, Universiti Utara Malaysia, Malaysia.
